VINE WITH FLOWERS IN CARABEO STREET

En esta obra la artista capta laboriosamente un instante de luz, regateado al sol en una calle estrecha que busca dar al paseante su sombra y cobijo. Esta calleja, uno de los brazos marítimos de Nerja, es la de Hernando de Carabeo. Este, alférez en el Tercio de Nápoles, y los cónsules de las repúblicas italianas se establecieron allí en otros tiempos, mirando al mar. Estos viajeros sabían que el Mediterráneo establece una lengua visual común que podían hablar malagueños, sicilianos, cretenes o tunecinos, temporalmente en tregua por estos símbolos comunes. En esa misma calle, desde su alféizar, la maceta ve pasar diariamente la algarabía popular, se convierte en protagonista de mil fotos y atestigua que, al fin y al cabo, esta calle sigue siendo un mundo en miniatura.

In this work the artist painstakingly captures an instant of light, dribbled by the sun in a narrow street that seeks to give the passerby its shade and shelter. This alley, one of the maritime arms of Nerja, is Hernando de Carabeo’s. This one, ensign in the Tercio de Nápoles, and the consuls of the Italian republics settled there in other times, facing the sea. These travelers knew that the Mediterranean establishes a common visual language that could be spoken by Malaga, Sicilians, Cretans or Tunisians, temporarily in truce by these common symbols. In that same street, from its windowsill, the flowerpot sees the daily passing of the popular hullabaloo, becomes the protagonist of a thousand photos and testifies that, after all, this street is still a miniature world.
